Heart

If I could rip it out

of my aching chest

and let it escape,

it would fall onto the floor,

so heavy, and fall through

to the ground floor;

probably onto the noisy

old couple downstairs-

and maybe, just maybe, the thud of my obnoxious

shouting heart will finally drown their bickering out-

and my silent hope

will ring loud enough

for all the world

to shut. up.

once,

and for all-

dark red.
