Things That Happen

do not drench your nights with
a list of things that happen.
if an adult tells you
you're not good enough, say ok.
if the boy you love says
he doesn't love you back, say ok.
if your umbrella gets lost
or your wallet or your ambitions, say ok,
okay?
when the food runs out,
and all the shops close,
and your backup store
is run with ants,
sigh okay.
your best friend wants to study
in a far away place, say I love you
good luck. it's ok.
you must let them all pass through
the membrane of your skin;
through the front and out the back,
leave your body empty.
waste the day but,
at night, you must take
your empty vessel of a body
on a cycle ride and
fill it with rain.
flail your arms and
lift your head to the sky
with your mouth open
and
gargle and scream if you wish
squint as your eyes fill up
you're drenched but you're alive-
you are full of water,
but the night is not
the list of things that happen.

On Saturday, I was tired, it rained, and I lost my umbrella. I got wet with such disdain for life. I was angry and soggy and I broke down at night after a long time. Yesterday, I lay down ready to start my nightly woe is me session but I took the cycle out impulsively. It rained again. This time I didn't run inside or curse the clouds. This time I took my hands off the handlebar and cycled harder. Felt good. Wrote this in my head taking a hot water bath right after. If you're new here, welcome. I keep this blog like a personal diary sometimes- I write poems and dump stories, explanations, and anything I want in this section. The poems help me process living, and the dumps help me remember what I was on (for when I revisit from the future). I hope that in sharing this, you too get something out of it.
I'm happy you're here. Thanks for reading Toodles!
