A Friend

there goes the man!

the man with the bag

it's heavy and it's black

I ask him if I could peer

inside!

he says, "oh sure!"

but he holds it tight

he's odd and I,

I leave him alone!

we walk side by side

and he gives me the eyes

poor thing is hurting

I know!

he finally caves

and gives me the weight

for I am tougher than he!

I proudly take

the gift of burden

and dig my heels

into sand!

I bear it proud

my brain dips in darkness

I watch him hollowly

slouch!

we walk side by side

and he awkwardly sighs

"relieved but I'd rather share

-your bag!"

I gladly nod, for

I was haughty

and would be frail

if we,

were walking alone!
